Zooropia is a concept proposal for a high-ropes course at Taronga Zoo. Turpin+Crawford Studio worked collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to devise the course whose target audience was teenagers and young adults, a group with low visitation numbers at the zoo.
The course developed the notion, both physically and aesthetically, of ‘feeling like an animal in the zoo’. The course structure proposed ‘birds nest’ stations between activity sections and a ‘human enclosure’ adapting the existing spider monkey enclosure. Course activities were inspired by the actions of various animals in the zoo that included, gliding, swinging, hanging and leaping.
