A field of rocks appears to hover just above the ground. The expectation of solidity collapses on contact as they wobble gently on individual springs. Performing the unexpected, this sculpture at play invites us to play with it.
A cluster of 25-30 large, roughly hewn sandstone rocks each approximately 300 kilos in weight and 700 x 500 x 300mm in size are attached to a centrally located industrial compression spring. The springs are largely concealed from sight by the shadow cast from the rock. The springs are sized to produce a gentle wobble and a restraining device inside the spring prevents any extension to the prescribed movement.
